First Date Tips!

 Hey Hey! 😀

My first ever date I had, I clearly remember today. I was 19, a bucket of nerves and talked non stop about my entire life, until that very day. I also talked about lemon shaped bread and thought it would be funny to try and shove my date in the pond. Lucky for me I didn’t come off too odd and was asked for a second meet, but unlucky for the date I saw him as a friend only :O

First up! The rules. Before you say anything no it’s not something weird about how late to show up, when to make them jeolous or anything crazy like that. Mind games are not good. These rules, are my safety tips.

First: Take your phone with you. (Not that any of you would leave that behind)

Second: Meet in a PUBLIC place. Never invite them to pick you up at home.

Third: Tell someone. Make sure someone knows where you are going and who you are going with as well as what time you are leaving and when you will come home

Fourth: this may be optional but it sometimes is a good idea to give a friend your date’s number for emergencies.

Fifth: If you are going out of an evening you may want to be careful with the amount of alcohol drinks you consume. Just in case! ;0)

Well that’s the boring stuff out the way, now for some even more boring stuff 😀

Where to go?

In my view I think first dates should be where you can actually talk to each other or do something that can make sure you have fun together.  Going to the cinema has been a popular choice for some but I only think that’s a good idea if you plan to go elsewhere after to maybe share your thoughts on the film.

  • Going out for a meal (not a fancy restaurant!!) or a drink any old place will do, if your date really likes you they won’t mind 😀
  • Going to the park/ for a walk  it’s nice to experience nature together, think it brings people closer 😀
  • Do activities together. Go to the museum, go to the arcade etc. 😀Most of my first dates were in chain restaurants (nothing wrong in that :-)) but other places have been at parks, drives and coffee places. I liked these as they weren’t serious date places and it almost felt like i was just meeting a new friend. My first ever date was at Nandos (where you get lemon shaped bread) and then after we went to the park(where i tried to shove the boy in the pond ;-))

What to wear?

There is no dress code (sorry :-()People do like to say “it’s better to be over dressed then under dressed” but in my view a man in a suit with flowers/ a girl in a expensive dress and tons of makeup on a first date would be bit overwhelming even though it seems really romantic looking in a book or film. I’d rather both me and my date were comfortable so i’d go with casual smart. You come off less high maintenance and more approachable. But everyone is different and you should wear what you like and feel comfortable in, while still being true to you. I’m sure we would all like to wear a nice fitting dress and a pair of high heels but if you are conscious of your tummy and can’t walk in the shoes, why bother with the extra stress just because you “think” your date would like it. Don’t make things more complicated. Save those things for when you are more confident.

On my first ever date i wore a t-shirt, jeans, cardi and converse flats. My friend straightened my hair and put eyeshadow and other make up-y stuff on. I don’t wear make up and i’m not a fan of straight hair so that was a one time thing. Other first dates were the same minus straight hair, make up, (i’m a strictly moisturiser, nail polish and tinted lipbalm kind of girl ;-)) and the converse flats (they smell rubber-y in the summer)

What to do?

Going on dates is meant to be fun and yes it’s a cliché but it is important to be yourself and only yourself and not to stress!!! Talk about good things only, no ex partners how much you hate work/school or things like that. Your interests, their interests and ask One rule here for you don’t make it seem like an interview!!!

My first ever date i mentioned above. The other first dates were more normal except for the one where i tried to mother him :-S

Anyway i hope this helps 😀

Good Luck!!! ❤
